Environmental Statement
Environmental stewardship addresses critical global issues, starting with global warming, as well as ways to combat air and water pollution, slow the rapidly increasing loss of biodiversity and stem the proliferation of waste. We are dedicated to continuous efforts to improve the compatibility of our operations with the environment while economically developing energy resources and supplying high quality products and services to consumers.
We recognize our responsibility to work with the public, the government, and others to develop and to use natural resources in an environmentally sound manner while protecting the health and safety of our employees and the public. This is reflected in our pledge to
- Strive to achieve leading industry practice.
- Meet or, where less stringent than our standards, exceed applicable legal and other requirements.
- Set and achieve targets that promote efficient use of resources and include reducing and preventing pollution.
- Enhance biodiversity protection by assessing and considering ecological values and land use in our activities.
Our operational sites are working to have an environmental management system certified to ISO 14001. While we generally do not require certification at exploration and development projects, sites being divested, closed sites or corporate offices, a number of these sties have chosen to seek certification.
